Mind Body Scan to Reconnect to You and Reduce Tension

When you think about “reducing stress” do you dream of a massage, facial, glass of wine, day or week at the spa, watching a movie?  Often times the things we think will help us reduce our stress can actually cause MORE stress as its one more thing to schedule into our day or week.

The easiest stress reducers are the ones you can do anytime, any where.

Mind-body scans are now being taught in elementary schools as ways to re-connect to the body.  They take just minutes to complete and can be done anywhere.

By scanning the body you can identify areas of tension, pain, resistance or stress.  You can see where you may need to pay more attention during a workout, or breathe deep into that area to allow it to relax and release what is “stuck”.

How it works?

Lay down with your body relaxed. Starting at your toes and slowly working your way up your body, check in with yourself. How is that area feeling? Ask it to release any tension. Ask it to relax and let go.

Work your way up to the top of your head.

Then lay there focusing on breathing deep into your belly for a few minutes or till ready to get up. (insert photo)

I love the way I feel after a 5-minute body scan.  More energized and aware of what is going on within my body.  Areas that I need to stretch or that I’ve been clenching and need to relax that I wasn’t even aware of!
